Speech and Language Therapy
We employ a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant who works here three days per week. She works in school with children who have speech and language difficulties. Children work with the SLTA in small groups of three or four or on an individual basis if necessary. Work is sent home so parents can reinforce the work done in school. Parents have found this to be very beneficial in the past with many children being discharged from therapy by the end of the school year.
Our Music Teacher comes one morning each week to work with the boys and girls. As well as singing lovely new songs, she teaches them about how instruments work and the sounds they make. Joining music and movement helps the children to control their bodies - moving quickly to fast music and slowly to calmer music. Music and dance are great activities which help physical development, attention and listening skills and help make learning fun!
Soccer Skills Sessions:
Each Wednesday one class goes up to St Colmcille's Primary School for a Soccer Skills session with Burns Soccer School. The children work on developing their soccer skills and teamwork, while participating in physical exercise and above all having fun! One child gets a certificate and a football each week. This will continue for the rest of the school year. We are very fortunate as these sessions are at no cost to us as it is paid by St Colmcille's Primary School. A big thank you to them especially as the boys and girls are really enjoying learning how to play football, as well as making exercise fun.
We work closely with Marian Milligan from the Dental Health team with SEHSCT. She gives us free toothbrushes and toothpaste. We brush our teeth in school and even get to take a new toothbrush and toothpaste home each term! We have a healthy snack each day and are learning all about taking care of our teeth. Our school has achieved lots of awards from SEHSCT for this - even a Platinum award!
